- Describe SIG projects or activities that occurred during the past year:
Preparation for the SIG program at the 2007 ABA involved:
1) Consulting experts in areas of edema management, contractures of the head/face, contractures of the extremities and trunk, hypertrophic scarring, pain and anxiety, and impairment and disability to determine speakers.
2) Discussion among chairpersons and speakers regarding learning objectives.
3) Created focus group form for discussion (breakout) sessions.
- Suggestions or issues your group would like to be brought before the Membership Advisory:
We would like to work with the Program Committee in changing the time of the Rehabilitation Committee Meeting to be in the afternoon so that members of that committee may attend both the meeting and the SIG.Committee and/or the Board of Trustees. Thank you.

Here are some of the comments I received:
Presentations:
- Liked the videos for edema, helpful for clarification
- Outstanding program!!
- High quality program!
- Initially regretted that I couldn’t attend all breakout sessions but summaries left me feeling complete.
- Enjoyed the basic theme.
- The SIG is one of the meetings I WONT miss every year. Keep going.
- This SIG demonstrated/stimulated need to develop a more comprehensive scar assessment.
- Would be interesting to follow up with PTs/OTs to see how many are trying to use new tools/techniques reviewed in the SIG
- I really liked the format of an initial lecture and then go to breakout sessions of our choice. We can then later approach the various speakers.
- This is always the best part of the meeting for me
- Nice program, thank you. I appreciate all your hard work.
- Excellent for each break out group to discuss their findings.
Environment:
- Difficult to hear during breakout sessions – II
- Helpful to have group sessions in separate rooms
- Difficult to find space in the breakouts
- May be beneficial to put screen higher
- Need more PT/OT SIG time
- Long tables would be helpful for note-taking during presentation.
- Lights never turned back on after presentations.
Handouts:
- Love the bound books!
- Great handout.
- Fabulous handout with great resource material
- The spiral book was great
- Loved the packet of program evals
- Would have liked a handout on the core exercise lecture
- Booklet great.
Other:
- Should we have these sessions approved by the ABA?
- Great discussion of evidence
- Many surveys administered by PTs and Ots use the ABA website burn directory which is quite out of date. The sample frame is not accurate. I think this decreases the quality of PT/OT research. I suggest we use listing on burn therapists.com
- Thank you to the chairs
- Please include time for announcement of open positions, highlighting PT/OT presentations/ posters for the year.
- Really liked having the SIG meeting first, before the presentations!
- Breakfast was nice.
